Budget Billing Program Description

Budget Billing is a program that allows East Central Alabama Gas District customers to elect to pay the same amount each month for their gas bill.

The program works by taking an average of the past 24 months billing. These calculations are done every year at the end of March and are subject to approval by the General Manager.

Once a budget amount has been determined and agreed upon by the customer, that is the amount due every month. Throughout the year, the customer’s account may actually have a credit balance or be in arrears. This debit or credit balance will not affect the amount of the monthly budget bill payment. If service is disconnected or the budget billing program is discontinued, the account balance is due and payable immediately.

Budget billing is only applicable for gas charges. Any charges for labor or parts will be due in addition to the budget bill amount.  

Participation in the budget billing plan is voluntary and will renew automatically each year unless the customer notifies East Central Alabama Gas to end participation.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, the customer must have had service with East Central Alabama Gas for at least 2 years so that an average can be calculated. The customer must have had NO late payments and had NO returned checks within the past 24 months.

Should the customer pay less than the budget amount or pay after the due date (10th of each month) more than 3 times, the customer will be removed from the budget billing program. At that time, the full balance of the account must be paid in full.

Each year at the end of March, the customer’s account will be reconciled between what is actually owed and what has actually been paid over the last 12 months. Sometimes the customer will get a credit on their account and sometimes they will owe an additional amount.

**East Central reserves the right to adjust the budget billing amount at any time during the year if we notice that the budget amount is significantly inaccurate. This keeps the customer from owing a large amount at the end of the year.
